AES Executive Director Eileen Murray Receives Top Honor From Association Forum

CHICAGO, IL (June 9, 2022) - The American Epilepsy Society announced today that Executive Director, Eileen M. Murray, MM, CAE, is the 2022 recipient of the highest honor awarded to an association professional by the Association Forum: the Samuel B. Shapiro Award for Chief Staff Executive Achievement.

Named after Samuel B. Shapiro, CAE, past chairman of Association Forum (Chicago’s “association of associations”) and the American Society of Association Executives, the award recognizes outstanding service and accomplishment in nonprofit association management.

“On behalf of the AES Board, we are delighted that Eileen’s impressive track record is receiving well-deserved recognition,” said R. Edward Hogan, MD, FAES, president of the American Epilepsy Society Board of Directors. “Those who have worked with Eileen as a colleague and leader can attest to her strategic insight; exceptional talent; relentless focus on mission advancement; commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; legendary hard work; and calm presence in the face of crisis.”

“I am deeply honored to receive the Samuel B. Shapiro Award,” said Murray. “Serving as an association executive is an extraordinarily fulfilling career, and never more so than in my current role with AES because our efforts make a real difference to the one in 26 people who will have epilepsy during their lifetimes. I proudly share this honor with all the dedicated member volunteers and staff colleagues with whom I have had the privilege of working during my career.”

The Samuel B. Shapiro Award will be presented to Murray at the Association Forum’s Honors Gala on Thursday, June 23, 2022.
