Eligibility: Eligibility: This award is available to both established and early career investigators* exploring cutting-edge approaches to curing epilepsy. Preference will be given to research into biomarkers of SUDEP, a major unmet need in SUDEP research as determined by expert consensus. International applicants are welcome. Researchers who serve on CURE’s Scientific Advisory Board are ineligible to apply for or sponsor a grant for the duration of their term. All materials must be submitted in English. * Generally, early career investigators are university faculty at the assistant professor level (or hold an equivalent position in a non-university research organization). Established investigators are university faculty at the associate professor level or above.

Application Information: Every year, it is estimated that up to 50,000 deaths occur in the United States from seizure-related causes including Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP). There is an urgent need for more research into the causes of SUDEP; including but not limited to the identification of SUDEP biomarkers. Therefore, CURE seeks novel research projects that will address the goals of understanding and eliminating SUDEP. This program will award seed grants to researchers submitting innovative proposals that suggest new directions for SUDEP research. We specifically encourage studies that may not be currently fundable by other agencies, such as the NIH, because of their preliminary or unconventional nature. CURE also strongly encourages collaborative projects, especially those that are inclusive of investigators and expertise from fields outside of epilepsy
