* In his book Epilepsy and Related Disorders, Dr. Lennox excludes Dr. Cobb from his list of consecutive presidents of the ALAE starting in 1936 and includes Howard D. Fabing and A. Earl Walker. A letter dated December 1, 1939 on American League Against Epilepsy letterhead identifies Dr. Cobb as president of the American League at that time. Dr. Fabing and Walker are listed as presidents between Bailey and Merlis. Dr. Lennox states that it was Fabing’s presidency that led to the publication of Epilepsy and the Law (Barrow and Fabing, 1954). The title page of that publication lists Dr. Fabing as a past president of the American Academy of Neurology and Chairman of the Legislation Committee of the ALAE. Although Walker served as a president of the ILAE, he never served as a president of the AES.

Dr. Kellaway represents the first person non-physician to hold this position.
