Eileen Murray Named Executive Director American Epilepsy Society
Seasoned Association Executive Joins Connecticut-based Organization in December 2013
West Hartford, Conn., November 25, 2013 –The American Epilepsy Society (AES) announced today that Eileen Murray will become the new Executive Director and will assume her new role in December 2013. Eileen replaces the long-time AES executive director, Suzanne M. Berry and will oversee the staff and all operations of the Society. Eileen will report directly to the AES Board of Directors.
“I am thrilled that we were able to recruit Eileen in the Executive Director role at AES,” said Jacqueline French, M.D. President AES. “She has a superb track record of building association brands and programming and will help our Society to innovate and enhance our organization so that it can continue to lead advances in epilepsy for years to come.”
Eileen Murray is a 25-year association veteran serving most recently as the Deputy Executive Director at the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). While at AAD Eileen was instrumental in developing the Academy’s strategic framework, generated significant growth in non-dues revenue, and oversaw the development of an integrated communications function for the AAD as well as international strategy.
Prior to joining the AAD Eileen worked for nine years at the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), most recently as Vice President and Executive Director of the AHIMA Foundation. Earlier in her career she served in development and membership marketing roles at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Bar Association.
Eileen holds an MM in Marketing from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Business with a concentration in Public and Non-Profit Management. She is also a Certified Association Executive (CAE).
“AES has such a rich history and solid track record of success. It is a thrill to be stepping into this position,” said Eileen Murray. “I am confident that we can build on this success and the strategic relationships that AES enjoys to make solid connections and develop meaningful programs that serve our members and help our community advance our understanding of epilepsy.”
Murray’s appointment comes on the heels of several new innovations for AES. Earlier this year the organization launched the first Maintenance of Certification Course for the new epilepsy subspecialty and the new EMUCaring online training program. In 2014 AES will launch a new website and the Epilepsy Learning Institute.
