CHICAGO - Jeannie Chin, PhD was presented with the 54th Lombroso Lecturer Award during the 2021 Annual Meeting of the American Epilepsy Society (AES). The Lombroso Lecture is given each year by a clinician or scientist who is considered an outstanding investigator in the field of epilepsy research. The lecture and the award are supported by the AES Lennox and Lombroso Trust. Dr. Chin presented her lecture on Seizure-induced Epigenetic Regulation of Cognition in Alzheimer's Disease.
Dr. Chin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. The focus of her lab's research is to understand the cellular and network mechanisms underlying cognitive impairments in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other neurological disorders, and to identify therapeutic entry points for the treatment of these devastating diseases. Her multi-disciplinary approach combines biochemistry, molecular biology, in vivo physiology, and behavioral paradigms to link cellular alterations to memory deficits in mouse models of AD. Biochemical, molecular, and viral expression techniques are used to identify links between particular genes and cognitive dysfunction. This integrated approach allows investigation of the molecular basis of memory impairments in AD and identification of therapeutic entry points for the treatment of this neurodegenerative disease.
