Eileen Murray, MM, CAE

CHICAGO, IL ― Eileen M. Murray, MM, CAE, chief executive officer of the American Epilepsy Society (AES), has announced that she plans to step down from her position at the end of 2024, after 11 years of leadership and service to the organization.

Murray's strategic, goal-focused mindset and results-oriented execution have been instrumental in driving organizational growth and impact. During her tenure, AES has nearly doubled its operating budget and net assets have increased from $8 million to $25 million. She led the organization during a transformative period in its evolution, building a diverse, high-performing, professional staff team and partnering with AES’ Board of Directors on significant governance advances.

In partnership with elected leadership, Ms. Murray guided three strategic planning cycles, including the most recent, which centers on organization commitments to improving the lives of people with epilepsy through cross-disciplinary work, inclusivity, and equity, and expanded investment in research and evidence-based practice and education. Murray has supported the organization to increase visibility, credibility, and influence in the epilepsy and larger medical community.

“Eileen has made outstanding contributions, not only to AES but to the wider epilepsy community, and has been a leader in the formation of a united and collaborative network of epilepsy societies, markedly strengthening our voice,” said William H. Theodore, MD, president of AES.  “She also brought important perspective and incisive contributions to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke during her service on the National Advisory Council. She will be missed.”

The Board of Directors extends their deepest appreciation to Murray for her exceptional contributions to AES and wishes her the very best in her future endeavors. Search firm Korn Ferry has been retained to assist in the national search for her successor, and a search committee has been named, co-chaired by President Emeritus Manisha N. Patel, PhD, FAES, and First Vice President Howard P. Goodkin, MD, PhD, FAES. For more information on the search process contact Kelly Adamson, Senior Associate, kelly.adamson@kornferry.com.
