CHICAGO - Ethan M. Goldberg, MD, PhD presented the Fritz E. Dreifuss lecture during the Presidential Symposium at the 2021 Annual Meeting of the American Epilepsy Society (AES). Dr. Goldberg presented a patient case report as part of the symposium on “Recent Research Revolutions and Their Impact on Epilepsy Patient Care.”
Dr. Goldberg is assistant professor in the Division of Neurology at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the Departments of Neurology, Neuroscience, and Pediatrics at The University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. He is director of the Epilepsy NeuroGenetics Initiative (ENGIN) at CHOP where he specializes in the diagnosis and care of children with epilepsy and related complex neurodevelopmental disorders. His laboratory studies basic disease mechanisms and the interaction of disease with neurodevelopment, using a range of approaches in experimental systems. His lab is particularly interested in the function of the GABAergic inhibitory interneuron and the role of interneuron dysfunction as a cause of disease.
For AES, Dr. Goldberg has served on the Scientific Program Committee and is currently a member of the Basic Sciences Committee and an Epilepsy Currents contributing editor.
The Dreifuss lecture, funded through the AES Dreifuss Fund, honors the memory of Dr. Fritz E. Dreifuss, a leading clinical epilepsy specialist, clinical investigator, and former president of the AES and International League Against Epilepsy. He was a mentor to a generation of epilepsy researchers and an educator with worldwide influence. His legacy continues as the fellows and residents he mentored, in turn, have become a network carrying on his work.
