Rationale: Vitamin D deficiency is thought to contribute to AED induced osteoporosis. We looked at the different forms of Vitamin D (D1, D2 and D3) deficiency in patients with epilepsy. Methods: A retrospective review of 169 patient records yielded 99 with D1, 52 with D2 and 51 with D3 levels. Mean levels of each was calculated and correlated to each other and with age and gender. Results: The mean (SD) age was 45.6 (16.6) years. The female:male ratio was 49:51. The mean (SD) D1 level was 23.2 (12.2), D2 level was 9.4 (3.8) and D3 level was 22.6 (12.2) ng/ml.
