Fred A. Lado, MD, PhD, FAES Elected Second Vice President of the American Epilepsy Society

ATLANTA—Fred A. Lado, MD, PhD, FAES has been elected second vice president of the American Epilepsy Society (AES), which is dedicated to advancing research and education for preventing, treating and curing epilepsy. Dr. Lado’s term will begin at the end of the Society’s 2025 Annual Meeting in Atlanta, GA on December 5-8, 2025. He will serve three years in AES’ presidential line and begin his term as president in 2028.

Dr. Lado is Professor of Neurology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra-Northwell and the Director of the Epilepsy Division for the Central and Eastern Regions of Northwell Health. He received his undergraduate medical education at New York University and his postgraduate medical education in neurology at New York Presbyterian, Cornell and in clinical neurophysiology at Montefiore Medical Center, Einstein College of Medicine. His clinical practice is focused on adults with drug resistant epilepsy, and he is especially interested in the surgical treatment of epilepsy. He has a large outpatient practice and is also active caring for inpatients in the epilepsy monitoring unit and interpreting EEG, stereo-EEG and electrocorticography. 

Dr. Lado is a national leader in epilepsy and has a long history of service to the American Epilepsy Society, currently completing a term as treasurer. He previously served as an at-large board member and chair of the Council on Education. Dr. Lado is also currently finishing his term as president of the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). He represents the NAEC on the National Plan for Epilepsy Committee (NPEC) steering committee and he co-led the NAEC workgroup that in 2024 published updated epilepsy center care guidelines. Dr. Lado has been honored to receive service awards from the Epilepsy Foundations of Long Island and Metropolitan New York. Dr. Lado is the author or co-author of numerous papers and book chapters, and he has lectured nationally and internationally on the treatment of epilepsy.
